Overview
Emergencies can occur at any time, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively can mean the difference between life and death. This course provides healthcare assistants and caregivers with essential knowledge and skills to recognize and respond to common emergency situations safely and confidently.
First aid is the immediate care given to an ill or injured person before professional medical help arrives. Its primary goals are to prevent death, prevent the condition from worsening, and promote recovery. In emergency situations, activating the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system promptly is critical to ensuring timely medical intervention.
This course covers the fundamentals of Basic Life Support (BLS), including recognizing cardiac arrest, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and understanding the chain of survival. Learners will also explore how to respond to life-threatening emergencies such as choking, severe bleeding (hemorrhage), fainting, and seizures.
Special emphasis is placed on early recognition of warning signs, maintaining patient safety, and applying appropriate first aid techniques. Learners will also understand the importance of staying calm, following proper procedures, and working effectively as part of a healthcare team during emergencies.
By the end of this course, learners will be equipped with the confidence and practical knowledge to act quickly, provide immediate care, and support patient survival during emergency situations.
